Portfolio Holder for the
Environment, Kerrier District Council
I am responsible for the following
services provided by the council :-
- Control of Dogs - Statutory
Duty to remove strays, Spot fines to owners of dogs caught fouling and
fining owners of dogs caught on beaches restricting dogs.
- Mineshafts -
Inspect and make safe
with fencing approx 20 potentially dangerous sites each year. Some
of these are subsequently capped.
- Coastal Protection - For
protecting the local coastline and maintaining the existing defences
i.e. Porthleven, Coverack, Cadwith and Praa Sands.
- Public Conveniences - The
Council maintains 40 Public Conveniences, empties 11 cesspits (600,000
gallons annually) at a cost of approximately £395,564.
- Recycling - Kerrier
residents now divert 110 tonnes per month from landfill .Kerrier also
operates a dedicated recycling centre at Dudnance Lane.
- Street and Beach Cleansing -
Kerrier
sweeps 250 miles daily, 100 miles weekly and 150 miles when required.
495 dog bins and 622 litter bins regularly emptied.
- Refuse Collection - 500
tonnes of refuse collected each week by our contractors SERVICETEAM.
- Stithians Composting Scheme - Environmental
project.
- Agenda 21 - worldwide
action plan, green initiative
- Street Furniture, Naming and Numbering
- Budget
caters for the repair or replacement of street signs and furniture such
as seating and shelters..
- Car Parks - Kerrier
Maintains 21 car parks within the District.
- Flood Defence - Kerrier
maintains the Leats system in Helston, and some, but not all of the
watercourses in the District.
- Planning & Development Control
- This
comprises Development Control, Forward Planning and Conservation Functions.
- Building Control - This
is a statutory function with a role to protect the health, safety &
welfare of people in and around buildings.
- Portreath Harbour - The
structure of Portreath Harbour is owned and maintained by Kerrier.
- Energy Management - The
Council operates a Building Management System to maximise energy efficiency.
